Daniel Dubois is targeting a British showdown with Tyson Fury – provided both men make it through their respective mega-fights later this year.
Dubois faces off against Fabio Wardley on October 17 whilst Fury meets Anthony Joshua on December 11 in one of the most anticipated fights in boxing history.
Dubois, the WBO world champion, is already eyeing up a first-ever meeting with Fury should both men prosper before the year is out.
“What a fight that would be. It’s like me and AJ all over again,” Dubois told Sky Sports. “That sort of magnitude. That’s what boxing’s about really. Frank [Warren, promoter] would love it, he’s got both of us. I’ve got to come through my next fight and anything’s possible.”
When quizzed on who he thinks will win in Cardiff, he replied: “I think Fury. Everyone’s been talking about this fight for such a long time. It’ll be good to see them both get into the ring. Two legends of British boxing.
“But let’s be real, I don’t even care about that fight.
“I’m not looking past Fabio at all. One fight at a time. I’m just dedicating myself 100 percent to this fight and he’s a true competitor, a true warrior and I’m just looking forward to getting in there and giving the fans another great fight.”
Dubois beat Wardley in their first meeting back in May, an extraordinary fight in which he survived two knockdowns before roaring back to win and inflict a first pro defeat on the Ipswich fighter.
Whilst a future meeting with Fury might be on Dubois’ wishlist it appears the Gypsy King has his sights firmly set on a trilogy meeting with Oleksandr Usyk – should he advance past long-time rival Joshua.
With so many permutations and what-ifs, it will be fascinating to see the fallout from these two upcoming monster heavyweight meetings.
